COVID-19

As you probably know by now, the coronavirus (COVID-19) has appeared in Ontario. Symptoms range from mild – like the flu and other common respiratory infections – to severe, and can include, fever, cough and difficulty breathing.

We don’t recommend panicking, but it’s a good time to talk about what we can all do to reduce transmission of this and other contagious diseases. And it’s a good reminder of how interconnected we humans are.

We know that there are many causes of cough that are not a contagious disease, such as COPD, asthma, allergies and general dryness. Acupuncture can be helpful for all of those conditions and we continue to welcome our patients with those conditions.

But we ask you to stay home if you have a fever, chills or are vomiting. We do not, and never will, charge a fee for appointments cancelled because of illness (which includes the illness of someone you’re caring for) including same day cancels. In light of COVID-19, if you’re caring for someone who is sick, possibly with COVID-19, we suggest rescheduling your appointments until everyone is recovered.

For the time being, please be fever-free for 48 hours before coming to GCA.

We are continuing our practice if sanitizing our hands thoroughly before and after each client.  We’ve put out extra bottles of alcohol-based hand sanitizer for you to use around the clinic. We will stay home if we’re sick. We’re keeping an eye on this webpage which is updated every weekday with up-to-date information on the status of cases in Ontario.

You can take these everyday steps to reduce exposure to viruses and protect everyone’s health:

  • wash your hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  • sneeze and cough into your sleeve
  • avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
  • avoid contact with people who are sick
  • stay home if you are sick

You can also urge the provincial government to reinstate paid sick days so that no one is forced to choose between groceries and staying home if they’re sick!

Regular acupuncture is an excellent immune-booster and stress reliever so we welcome you to come for treatment as part of staying healthy.

Let’s take good care of each other during this unsettling time.

Thanks to our friends at Manchester Acupuncture Studio, Berkeley Acupuncture Project and Working Class Acupuncture for much of the text of this post: we are, and always have been, all in this together.
